A talented group of former church choristers with wide choral experience has become this ensemble, outside the jurisdiction of the church (and that weekly commitment) and now has its own constitution as the Ambrosian Singers Auckland.

It is an ensemble of not more than twenty, but likely sixteen voices, so the music-making will be on a more intimate scale, sometimes accompanied by organ, piano or harpsichord, but most often unaccompanied 'a cappella' style. Their interest is in giving well prepared concerts, and perhaps the occasional church service, and in exploring new music alongside the ancient, and above all, in enjoying the art of choral singing.

Part of the raison d'etre of Ambrosia relates to post-graduate research work in early music being undertaken by their founder, Gillian Lander, formerly Organist and Music Director at Northcote. The hope is to bring to life some wonderful early music not heard for centuries - even millenia. The sound of Bede's England.
